Carving Rendezvous in Ridgeway

February 12, 2000

HUGE Woodcarving Event!

WE HAD A FANTASTIC
TIME!
The event was
wonderful. It was cold, but great! We had a very good time.
On Friday morning the carver's that had arrived early, did some ice
carving. Denny (owner, DENNYSWOODS) carved a large red heart with an
arrow going through it. He and Shelly Uphold from Maryland, Joe King
from PA and Dennis Heath from England all did some work on the heart. It
said MAKE A WISH in raised letters. Really cool!

On Saturday morning, bright and early, under a gorgeous blue sky, all
the carvers converged on the carving site. There was quite a roar from
the chainsaws ! When all the chips settled there were some
wonderful creations ready for auction. There were bears big and small,
totem poles, a lion chair, a coyote and cactus scene, a flying eagle, a
mountain lion, owls, Indians, a carved tree, praying hands, and hand
that was a chair, and many many more. There were about 2000 spectators
that visited from the area. All of the pieces were auctioned off right
on site just before sundown. The bidders were all quite generous. The
event was a tremendous success!

On Saturday night, the carvers and family members got together for a
dinner and shop talk, and a little more fun.

On Sunday, the carvers convened at the local boy scout camp for a
covered dish dinner and a chance to share photos, and ideas. It was a
very successful event and we are all looking forward to next year.

Remember
to check our website for info on next year's event, or other
woodcarving happenings and shows. As the weather gets warmer,
we'll be out and about more, attending shows and conventions. We'll
also be posting out itinerary online, on a new page, so you'll always
know where to find us if you'd like to come see our work and meet us in
person!
